The founding of the Regroupement Soutien aux Aidants de Brome-Misssiquoi was a very important historic event in our region. Several people who were very concerned about the need to support informal caregivers decided to take action and create the BMCSG.

In 1996 a provisional committee made up of CLSC workers was created; this committee was later dissolved and replaced by a duly constituted board of directors. The Regroupement would have a well-established office in Bedford. In cooperation with various workers, a needs assessment was carried out to identify the main services that should be offered, i.e. reception, support, information, referral, meetings to stay in touch with caregivers.

In 1997,
a permanent coordinator was hired to help the organization develop, coordinate services, and ensure ongoing contact with members through information and educational workshops.

From 1998-2000, member services were well in place and the creation of a newsletter ensured a wider distribution of information.

In 2001,
we noted that the “Respite-Support” service was the most widely sought service. The number of hours of respite offered to caregivers was the result of the efforts of the support worker in promoting the service and educating workers in the field. Thus, the population was more aware that caregivers are in constant danger of exhaustion.

In 2002, our Bedford office moved to 505 Rue Sud in Cowansville, enabling closer contact with caregivers from the region. In cooperation with the CLSC, the BMCSG set up the “Respite-Training” program to enhance the skills of our caregivers and their sense of confidence and safety.

In 2004, we adopted a new logo, launched a Web site, and began to offer documentation in English.
The BMCSG promotes a sense of belonging among members so that they feel free to call on our services according to their needs, without any worries.

In 2007, attendance at our 10th anniversary celebrations demonstrated that our organization was greatly appreciated, and indicated that we were becoming a more effective public spokesperson for caregivers.

In 2010, the arrival of a new director has brought new direction to the BMCSG, offering a broader spectrum and greater visibility. A new newsletter offers caregivers a more varied and appealing activity calendar. The BMCSG has also launched a new Web site.

In 2011, the BMCSG is celebrating there 15th anniversary and we are happy to realize a dream: a respite home for our Caregivers. Our team is growing in order to help our caregivers in Brome-Missisquoi. Proud to have our spokesperson by our side Mrs Chloé Sainte-Marie offers sunshine to our organization.
